When we talk about fashion’s waste crisis, we often picture overflowing landfills filled with discarded clothing, and it’s true that approx. 92 million tons annually, or roughly one garbage truck full of textiles, is dumped every single second.

But a large portion of that impact happens during the manufacturing process - between silhouette pattern offcuts, unused fabric stock, and the incredibly rapid fast-fashion cycle that puts trends above everything else, ‘unseen’ waste builds and builds in the background.

Sui began as a response to fashion industry norms, a way for our founder, Mahima, to create eco-friendly fashion that was intentional and understood its impact. From the start, we knew we needed to do better and implement a system that made as much use as we can of every piece of material we came into contact with.

So, to create a circular fashion system, we had to consider two things: how do we manage our waste internally, and how do we design for maximum wearability and longevity.

UPCYCLING: A SECOND LIFE

At Sui, our zero-waste philosophy, that we’ve held since our start in 2018, means making a conscious commitment never to discard what we’ve created. Every seasonal collection inevitably leaves behind fabric offcuts and excess stock, but rather than treating these materials as disposable, we view them as an opportunity for thoughtful design.

Through our upcycling initiative, we turn these fabrics into low-waste accessories, allowing us to elevate existing textiles and natural fiber clothing into functional pieces while keeping our internal carbon footprint as low as possible.

The average consumer wears a garment 7 to 10 times before discarding it, a notion we hope to change by designing clothing that you can wear with ease from work to the beach, that naturally fits into a closet that already exists.

What makes this drop special is that each piece is made entirely from excess stock fabrics saved from our previous summer edits. Instead of letting these beautiful, breathable conscious textiles and natural fiber clothing sit unused, we’ve crafted an upcycled clothing line of staple, classic women's silhouettes.
